Well, this bread is more difficult to find, if not almost impossible. You can find many imitations in Spain, but they will never be the same as those found in the US. If you have been in America, in cities like New York, Washington or San Francisco, you will have noticed that when you return to Spain, the taste of the dogs was never the same. Obviously, as we have already said, bread is part of that special flavor. Less sweet than regular hot dog breads and fluffier. I am not talking about the bread that is bought in supermarkets, but the bread that is made at home in the traditional way. Well good and very good! Therefore, today I am going to share with you the true recipe for American bread for hot dogs. The good thing about this recipe is that we can use it to prepare the bread for Burgers. Whether you already tried the US hot dog or not, now you have the opportunity to taste this American delicacy, which will leave supermarket breads on the floor. Let’s get started!
Ingredients for US Hot Dog and American Burger Bread
(For a dozen Hot Dogs and American Burgers)
- 680 g type 55 flour
- 2 tablespoons instant baking yeast coffee
- 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons coffee salt
- 50 g of butter
- 15 cl of water
- 20 cl milk
- 4 egg yolks
Preparation of the dough for the American bread of hot dogs and hamburgers as in the USA
- Mix the first 4 ingredients (flour, yeast, sugar and salt), which we will call dry ingredients.
- In a saucepan, heat the butter and water until everything is well melted.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the milk.
- With the help of a thermometer, wait until the temperature of this liquid preparation is between 50 ° C and 55 ° C, and then add the “dry ingredients” to the liquid mixture.
- Knead the result with your hands and gradually add the egg yolks.
- Continue kneading for 10 or 20 minutes until this dough is homogeneous and elastic.
- Roll this hot dog batter into a bowl lightly greased with oil. Then cover the bowl with clear plastic wrap.
- Let this dough rest at room temperature for 1h and 30 minutes, until it doubles its volume.
Preparation of American Recipes Hot Dog Bread and Bread for US Burgers
- Once the dough has rested and inflated, divide it into 10 pieces, more or less the same.
- Stretch each of the pieces 10cm long and 4 or 5cm wide. (Make them round if they are for hamburgers).
- If you have molds, place them in them and if not try to create aluminum foil molds for each bread.
- Place the molds on a large cooking plate, dropping a little flour on the loaves.
- Cover with clear kitchen plastic wrap and let stand again for an hour, always at room temperature.
- Once the dough is already resting, preheat the oven to 220 ° C.
- Before putting them in, brush them with milk with a kitchen brush, very carefully to avoid breaking the yeast process.
- Put them in the oven for 10, 12 minutes, always watching to make sure things are going well. Once they are golden brown, remove them from the oven.

(For 2 hot dogs)
- 2 hot dog buns
- 2 carving sausages
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 soup spoon of American Classic Yellow Mustard
